Brome ("the App", "we", "us", or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how Brome accesses, handles, and protects your information when you use our Android SMS and messaging application.
Brome is designed with a privacy-first, local-first architecture. All message processing, categorization, and contact matching are performed entirely on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store your personal conversations or contact records on external servers.
To function as your default SMS application, Brome requests specific Android permissions strictly to deliver core messaging capabilities:
How this data is used: Messages are organized into conversations and local smart categories (Personal, OTP, Finance, Promotions, Spam, Reminders, Tickets, etc.). All classification runs 100% locally on your device using on-device heuristics. Message contents are never transmitted to external cloud servers or AI processing backends.
Brome accesses your contacts to:
How this data is used: Contact information is processed strictly in temporary device memory. We do not copy, upload, sync, or transmit your address book to any outside servers.
This permission is used to identify active SIM card subscriptions in dual-SIM or multi-SIM devices so you can select and persist which SIM card to send messages from. It is not used to identify you or track your device across sessions.
Used to display alerts for new incoming messages, provide quick action buttons (such as "Copy Code" for OTPs or "Mark as Read"), and allow inline replies directly from your system notification shade.
Brome does not collect or store your personal information on developer-owned servers.
Your text messages, conversations, contacts, and preferences remain stored locally on your device within Android's protected application sandbox and the standard Android Telephony provider.
We do not sell, rent, license, monetize, or share your messages, contacts, phone numbers, or personal data with any third parties, data brokers, or advertising networks.
Cellular Transmission: When you send an SMS or MMS, the message is transmitted through your mobile network carrier's cellular infrastructure to reach the intended recipient's handset, as is standard for all SMS messaging services.
Brome is completely ad-free. We do not display advertisements, nor do we embed third-party advertising frameworks, tracking beacons, or cross-app analytics trackers.
Brome does not use third-party analytics or behavioral tracking SDKs. Any diagnostic logs generated for troubleshooting (such as the optional debug probe tool) reside solely in volatile device memory and are not uploaded to any remote server.
Because all data is stored on your device, you retain full control over your data retention:
Your messages are protected by Android's application sandboxing architecture, ensuring other non-system apps cannot access Brome's internal data. We recommend securing your physical device with a screen lock (PIN, password, or biometric authentication) to protect your local data.
You can review, modify, or revoke permissions granted to Brome at any time through your Android device settings:
Settings > Apps > Brome > Permissions
You can also change your default SMS application at any time via Settings > Apps > Default apps > SMS app.
Brome does not target, market to, or knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in certain jurisdictions). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate steps.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or Android platform guidelines. Any revisions will be published with an updated effective date at the top of this policy.
